At this year’s Australian Institute of Company Directors Annual Conference in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Dr Robert Kay delivered a keynote on Incept Labs’ research, commissioned by the AICD, on the relationship between governance and performance.
The research challenges conventional thinking, finding ‘Good’ governance is a team activity, with the team being the board and executive. Whilst this may
appear to conflict with the structural notions of independence so prevalent in governance debates, the 102 chairs interviewed for the research viewed
independence as a mindset and characteristic of the individual rather than a structural feature.
